Epiphone Riviera
You really have to see this guitar in person to appreciate how good it looks. Of course how it sounds is more important - it sounds even better than it looks. The mini humbuckers are super versatile - great full jazz sound, takes gain on the bridge pickup really well without feedback for rockier stuff, the middle position is a wonderful chinky grainy rhythm guitar sound for R&B, funk, and Americana music. It is a bright sounding guitar - but being bright is a pro not a con - if you need something to cut through the mix and be full sounding at the same time this is your guitar. You can usually tame a bright guitar but you can't always clean up muddy pickups.
I cannot stress enough what a great design, pickups, neck, and build quality you get with this guitar.
It is easy to play and the strings feel slinky.
The Epiphone Riviera is simply an excellent guitar. It is brighter and "spankier" than its close cousin, the 335 which makes it a better rhythm guitar than the 335.
The mini humbuckers are fantastic especially the middle position - woody, bright, clear, and grainy. I have played numerous gigs with it and it sounds great on stage in a band mix.
If you are looking for a hollowbody that doesn't sound like everyone else's 335 then this is your guitar.
These Riviera’s punch well above their weight. You need to try one…
