1981 K Yairi Dreadnought 12 string
1981 K Yairi 12 string model DY51TW - Made in Japan
Highly figured book matched burled mahogany back and solid Spruce top
The DY51 is a dreadnaught style, solid Cedar top, ivoroid bound body, tortoise shell pick guard , herringbone rosette, burled mahogany back / sides, mahogany neck, 14/20 fret ebony fretboard with snowflake inlay, ebony bridge, burled mahogany headstock veneer, mother of pearl headstock inlay, with chrome tuners.
As you can see in the photos, this vintage Yairi is in wonderful playing condition. This is a stunning, top of the line dreadnought, made from their best woods by their best craftsmen.
The solid mahogany neck and quilted burled mahogany back and sides are gorgeous, as is the solid Cedar top.
The action is very good and easy to play (something you don’t always find in a 12 string), the sound is responsive and natural; the neck is straight and very comfortable. Tuning is rock solid. The tone of the guitar is smooth, detailed and balanced.
The wood has matured wonderfully over the last 42 years and has developed the sweet mid range and timbre of a well aged instrument. There is no mistaking that sound.
There are some small marks on the Cedar top but nothing major…to be expected in a 42 year old guitar. Cosmetically, as the pictures attest, she has only the minimal exterior wear of a well loved, well played and well cared for instrument of this quality.
I had a K & K Pure Western transducer pickup system fitted to it a long time ago. No holes were cut. It is a natural sounding pickup for live work.
The neck has never been broken, cracked or repaired, the guitar is rock-solid, and plays with no issues. The top is extremely solid, and there is no give or movement. The bridge is A+, no issues. The binding is fresh and clean, no degradation. The frets are in good shape, and the guitar is good to go for another 40+ years.
Included is an “Extreme” soft shell case.
